VA Education Benefits

Your first step is to request a letter of eligibility from your VA representative. Once you receive this letter, submit it to the Registrar’s Office and follow these steps:
- Enroll in a degree- seeking program.
- Request certification after registering for courses each semester and each summer session through our VA Certifying Official

All VA students must file an application with the Department of Veterans Affairs Western Region Office, Muskogee, OK. Students who have not previously received VA benefits must file an original application (veterans VAF 22-1990; dependents VAF 22-5490). Students who have received VA benefits in the past must file a Request for Change of Program or Place of Training (veterans VAF 22-1995; dependents VAF 22-5495).

VA Educational Benefits
The Montgomery GI Bill Active Duty program provides education benefits to Veterans and Service members who have at least two years of active duty. This benefit provides up to 36 months of education benefits and may be used for degree and certificate programs, flight training, apprenticeship/on-the-job training, and on-the-job training, and correspondence courses. CSAAVE is the state approving agency for Veterans Education Program Approval.
A veteran of World War II or thereafter who has a service-connected disability which entitles him or her to VA disability compensation and who is in need of vocational rehabilitation because their disability creates an employment handicap may be eligible for Chapter 31 benefits.

Pitzer College is a member of the Yellow Ribbon Program of the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs. Veterans should follow the same application procedure as other applicants for admission to Pitzer College. In addition, veterans are welcome to provide additional materials to supplement their applications, such as further explanation of their educational records and/or supplementary essays addressing their military experience and how it has influenced their readiness and desire for further education.

The Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance (DEA) program offers education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of Veterans who are permanently and totally disabled due to a service-related condition or of Veterans who died while on active duty or as a result of a service-related condition. The Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve program provides education and training benefits to eligible members of the Selected Reserve, including the Army Reserve, Navy Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve and Coast Guard Reserve, and the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard. Eligibility for the program is determined by the Selected Reserve components and VA makes the payments.
